Hotel Heliconia

Heliconia Hotel hosted me and my 13 college students for four nights in January 2026. The rooms, breakfast and dinner were perfect and the view from the hotel was amazing! The hotel is within walking distance of Santa Elena as long as you are able to walk uphill! I enjoyed the hike up daily! Every morning they offered a full buffet of traditional Costa Rican food, beans and rice, vegetables, fruit, vegetables, eggs, potatoes, bread, etc. On our first night, they prepared a welcome dinner and accommodated us offering a variety of options for all diets. The sunset is best viewed from the rooms on the hill in the 500 building.

This hotel was genuinely such an amazing experience, we had to leave a review. The hotel staff, from the receptionist to the caterers, was familial and so incredibly kind. They were always smiling and helped us coordinate rides when needed. The location of the hotel was incredible as well, you could see the sunset from the rooms and the lake Arenal. The rooms were very spacious including the huge bathroom, and were very very neat. We 10000/10 recommend this hotel for any families or individuals traveling to Costa Rica, for the view, staff and amazing experience.

My only complaint is the location. Outside of town and located on a steep slope. Walking to and from the hotel is a real workout. Not for anyone with mobility issues. Food and service is great. Rooms were large. Bathrooms were huge. Views were amazing.

Lovely hotel overlooking Santa Elena. The rooms are large and modern. Well equipped and comfortable. Beautiful bathrooms. They are dark wood which means lights are almost essential. But all in all a great place to stay.

We had a wonderful time at Heliconia Hotel. It was a wonderful experience.

The restaurant at the hotel was excellen. I have been to several Michelin star restaurants and I’ve never experienced better service than we did with Steven Diaz. His attention to detail on the drinks (which were delicious) and checking in just enough. I was incredibly impressed! The food was delicious.
